The Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 STM Lens is a versatile lens that can be used with all Canon cameras except full-frame ones and is an excellent carry-around lens. It offers sharp and cinematic shots for close-ups and portraits with narrow depth of field. The Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di II is a lens that can do the work of both the 50mm and 24mm but is a little more expensive at $300. It is not recommended for astrophotography due to the lack of focus marks and the STM not being ideal for manual focusing. Its minimum aperture of F2.8 lets in sufficient light to prevent star trails while both its 10-18mm and 24mm lens options are good for capturing travel photos depending on the scene. It offers mild distortion at the fringes of the frame but does not shrink ultra-wide shots. If it were mounted on a full-frame camera, it wouldn't produce the best results due to vignetting around the outside of the image.
