It works by eliminating the skunk oil with a chemical neutraliser. The product can be applied with a pump-up sprayer or a refill for Skunk-Off quart pistol grip sprayer and is safe to use on automobiles, crawl space, outdoor home and decking as well as indoor carpets, upholstery, clothing or bedding. It can be used in laundry at a rate of 2-4 ounces per regular load, as well as applied by fogging in enclosed areas (garage, outbuildings) or wet fogging with a dilution of 1:1 with water to larger areas. Also, this product does not have an expiration date and doesn't lose its effectiveness. It might take multiple baths over several days for the product to neutralize skunk oil thoroughly, but it doesn't mask the smell, as other products do. Skunk-Off liquid soaker has its scent, which may seem cloyingly sweet over time, but it's preferable over the skunk smell any day, and it wears off after the entire ordeal is over.
