Linear Editorial Review
The **Applied Linear Algebra Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics, 2nd ed. (2018)** presents a challenging yet informative exploration of linear algebra, appealing primarily to those with some prior knowledge of the subject. Generally, the textbook is recognized for its depth as it covers various topics, making it suitable for readers progressing from undergraduate to graduate-level courses. However, it is not regarded as an ideal starting point for novices in the field. Many readers appreciate the clarity of writing and neat presentation of material, although the notation used can be seen as quirky and occasionally confusing, detracting from the overall readability. While some found the text manageable and beneficial for self-study, others noted the scarcity of examples and real-world applications. This made it harder for some students to grasp complex concepts. The exercises present a mix of theoretical and practical challenges, but a Consensus exists that they lean more heavily towards theory, which may not cater to all learner preferences, especially those seeking applied mathematics. Overall, while the book is well-received for its comprehensive treatment of linear algebra, the varied opinions suggest that its effectiveness can significantly depend on the reader's background and objectives. ###
