The Kreg SML-C125-100 Zinc Pocket Screws are highly recommended for woodworking projects, especially for soft woods. They are 1 1/4" screws, which are suitable for 1" dimensional lumber (3/4" thick). The course thread screws provide a strong hold, making them ideal for joining pieces together securely. However, if you are working with hard woods, it is recommended to use fine thread screws for better results. These screws can be used with pine wood, as some customers have successfully used them for Constructing pine frames. It is important to use the correct distances and a good clamp to prevent the drill bit from jumping and creating shallow holes. The package does not include a square bit, but they are commonly available at hardware stores and home centers. The square bit, also known as a Robertson bit or Robertson drive, provides a more "positive" drive with improved contact between the drive and screw head. It is worth mentioning that these screws are not compatible with the Kreg HD, as the HD creates larger pocket holes that require different screws (SML-C2X250-30). For joining 2x10s side to side to make a table top, it is recommended to use 1 1/4" screws in pocket holes on the bottom wide faces spaced 4-6" apart. This will hold the pieces together while the glue on the narrow faces dries. It is advised to use clamps to ensure tight joints, especially if the table top will be used indoors, as the moisture content of Construction lumber may cause it to shrink and move over time.
